Aladdin

Aladdin opened in 1966 and closed in 1997, after 31 years, on the Las Vegas Strip, with up to 1,100 rooms. On the site today: Planet Hollywood Las Vegas.

The story

The toy maker Edwin S. Lowe opened the site on 24 December 1962 as the Tallyho, a 450-room hotel with no casino, which closed in October 1963. Milton Prell bought and renovated it, reopening it as the Aladdin on 1 April 1966, and Elvis and Priscilla Presley married there in May 1967. A 19-floor tower followed in 1976. Wayne Newton and Ed Torres bought the resort in 1980, though Newton sold his share within two years. It closed on 25 November 1997 after a last concert by Mötley Crüe, and the tower was imploded on 27 April 1998. A new Aladdin opened on the site in 2000 and was renamed Planet Hollywood in 2007.
