Stardust

Stardust opened in 1958 and closed in 2006, after 48 years, on the Las Vegas Strip, with up to 1,552 rooms. On the site today: Resorts World Las Vegas.

The story

Tony Cornero conceived the Stardust but died in 1955, and building stopped when the money ran out. Rella Factor finished it, and it opened on 2 July 1958 as the world's largest hotel, with 1,065 rooms and the Lido de Paris show. Under Argent Corporation in the 1970s, Frank Rosenthal added a sportsbook that became a model for others, while state investigators found money being skimmed from the casino. The Boyd family bought it in 1985 and added a 32-floor tower in 1990. It closed on 1 November 2006 and both towers were imploded on 13 March 2007. Its sign went to the Neon Museum. Resorts World Las Vegas opened on the site in 2021.
